Robert Jager, IT Manager at Koopman Logistics Group: “What you see here is one big logistical machine. Cars arrive from the ship, go through various steps, and then depart again. Everything must keep flowing. Our process is nearly 100 percent digital. From the moment a car arrives from the ship until it goes back into transport, we cannot run it without IT.”
The start of the collaboration
“The collaboration has grown step by step,” says Robert. “You start with the basics, but gradually you begin to explore together which areas you can further improve.”
IT as the foundation of the operation
According to Robert, the power of IT lies precisely in the fact that it is often barely visible. “Our IT is essentially always in the background. But if you look around here and see everything that's happening, then you know what we're doing it for.”
Technology that enables logistics
In a dynamic environment where vehicles are constantly in motion, downtime is not an option. Systems must be stable, secure, and prepared for growth, especially in an environment where thousands of vehicles pass through the process daily. By modernizing its infrastructure and collaborating with specialized partners, Koopman has an IT environment that can seamlessly fulfill this role.
In 2025, Koopman's data center platform was almost completely renewed. New servers, more powerful storage with increased capacity, and a modern backup platform now form the foundation of its digital operations. Additional provisions have also been implemented to protect business-critical data against cyber threats. As a result, Koopman possesses a future-proof data infrastructure that supports further digitalization and reliably scales its logistics operations.
Or as Robert summarizes it: “IT might not be the first thing you think of when you walk around here. But without IT, this entire process simply wouldn't work. Security plays a crucial role in this. The storage and backup environment is highly secured, ensuring business data remains protected and systems are always available for logistics operations. That is essential in a process that is almost entirely digitally managed.”
For Koopman, IT is not a standalone department, but an integral and essential part of its operations. Therefore, they work closely with partners who help strategize the next steps. The collaboration with Nalta is a good example of this: a partnership that started with infrastructure and has now become part of the company's digital foundation.
Robert: “When you see thousands of cars moving here, you realize how important it is that everything behind the scenes is perfect. That's precisely where the power of technology lies: visible in its results, but invisible in its execution.”
